Maverick by Woody Aragon and Lost Art Magic

The amazing Super Woody is back from the Planet Andromeda with another fantastic card miracle! It’s one of his favorite pet routines that is semi-automatic, can be done with a borrowed deck, and highly entertaining.

THE EFFECT –Imagine being able to convince your audience that you have real, supernatural powers with something as simple as a deck of playing cards. Once you learn this marvelous and easy-to-do routine, the powers of enhanced hearing, enhanced touch, x-ray vision, and telepathy will be yours at any given moment.

PHASE 1 –A spectator shuffles and cuts off any amount of cards, and is asked to riffle them into Woody’s ear. With his enhanced hearing, Woody knows precisely how many cards were cut off and proves it by cutting the same number of cards off the deck.

PHASE 2 –Woody demonstrates his telepathy by asking the spectator to think of any number. Before the spectator announces the number to the audience, Woody cuts off the exact number of cards he/she was thinking of.

PHASE 3 –A spectator selects any card, which is then lost and shuffled into the deck. With his telepathy and x-ray vision, Woody knows the identity and exact position of the selected card. He decides to get cheeky and flicks to the selection with just one finger.

Pinnacle by Russ Niedzwiecki

The crown jewel of ring and rubber band routines is back. A borrowed ring and an ordinary rubber band become linked and unlinked strand by strand. This routine isn’t just eye candy, it’s a real-life worker that Russ Niedzwiecki has been destroying lay people with for decades. This isn’t just the best impromptu ring and rubber band routine you can perform, this is Pinnacle by Russ Niedzwiecki.

Here’s what happens:

Both a ring and a rubber band can be borrowed from the spectator or introduced by the magician and thoroughly examined. Then in a seemingly impossible and highly visual four-phase routine the magician proceeds to link and unlink the ring and the rubber band. The ring individual strands of the rubber band pass one at a time through the ring. The entire routine is stunningly visual and impossibly open.

Olive Oil and Pure Water by Ryu Ka

Ryu Ka is a wonderful close-up magician from Japan but he has teamed up with Korean company, ARCANA, to produce this exclusive download for us. This is a quick, visual and fooling Oil and Water routine which is REALLY practical (and it is uses no gimmicks!).

Phase One introduces a simple and deceptive move which makes the first sequence impossibly clean. The second phase is designed to leave the spectator with no direction to turn as the cards are mixed face up, one by one, and then instantly separate.

If you already do an Oil and Water routine, we’d wager that the first phase of this could well become your go-to method. If you are new to this plot, this is one of the finest ungimmicked versions we have seen!

Table Passes by Troy Hooser

Troy Hooser - Table Passes on Vimeo

After an extended hiatus from publishing magic, Troy Hooser is back. Long regarded as one of magic’s most elegant and creative thinkers, Troy Hooser reemerges on Vanishing Inc. and brings us a most unexpected treasure trove:

A whole collection of table passes! Move monkeys rejoice. This material is as exciting to learn as it is to watch. The sub-genre of table passes is a largely unexplored corner of sleight-of-hand. Essentially, you are nullifying a cut, or undoing someone’s cut (could be your own) in the act of squaring the cards or lifting them from a table.

The reason there is such interest in table passes is that the pass is almost impossible to execute seated at .

Laura London – Card In Bottle

Card in Bottle - by Laura London

The traditional Card in Bottle plot has a problem. The card can’t be signed, the bottle has to be pre-loaded and the reveal is getting the spectator to ‘discover’ the card at the end of the routine. In short – it’s a trick that misses the mark.

Laura London however, doesn’t miss.
The incredible thinking behind this effect manages to tick every box for the ultimate on-the-spot performance. The card is signed. The magical moment is instant. The spectator is left with an impossible souvenir.
This is the effect that Laura uses to close every show – and it’s the reason why she’s booked solid for months in advance.

How Magicians Think

I’ve pivoted to doing virtual magic shows, and I’ve realized something interesting: doing a virtual magic show gives me a unique opportunity to bring you into my world. Every time I perform an in-person magic show, people have questions for me after the show. I’m not talking about “How did you do that?” type of questions–though, that one comes up too. I’m talking about really insightful questions that just aren’t answerable in a typical magic show

Jerome Sauloup – Choice

In 2009, Jérôme Sauloup developed a trick called “Automatic Open Prediction,” and fooled many magicians with it: Gaetan Bloom, Dirk Losander… After a few evolutions, he came up with a 2-deck presentation even more impossible because the spectators were doing all the work. Shawn Farquar and Eric Jones had the chance to witness this routine and were blown away.
