Luke Jermay – Distractions

In this slim volume I have collected three routines utilising billets from my own performance work; drawn over a period of more than ten years.

I have chosen to group these routines together in one volume at the request of many mentalists I have met during my appearances at magic conventions, workshops and masterclass events across the globe.

I also took this as an opportunity to update and add to these routines since first writing them up. In the interest of variety I have broken up each of these routines with two very short essays and thoughts; you will spot these essays as they are all labelled asdistractions in their titles; sometimes in these sections there is a trick; other times there is not; these essays are taken from my series of essays published in Genii Magazine several years ago and appear here unchanged.

Have you ever experienced a coincidence?

But is it really a coincidence or a written destiny?

Imagine a magician pulls out a deck of cards and is shown in front of the back of the card and normal, then the magician takes 1 special card out of his wallet, then puts it at the bottom of the deck of cards, then the magician tells the audience to choose a card randomly with the card facing up and the audience is more free to choose the card they want, without forcing or blind choice, well this is where strange things happen… because when the magician takes his special card which is placed at the bottom of the stack of cards and open it, is a prediction written that’s said.

The card that will be in choose the audience… and not only that on the special card it is also written that the audience card is the only card with a blue back between all the cards

After the audience checks it is true … how can the audience not be shocked?

The ending magician show all the cards is red and each card is different and only the spectator’s choice card is one blue card.

The lady on stage is coached in how to decipher the man’s thought. She agrees that her choice is a free and fair one, that you have not at any time told her the answer.
