I dare to say that this is one if the most underestimated books on card magic.

For people that consider themselves “move-monkeys”, the dinner has been served. There are many sleights in this book, including some really odd ones such as a bottom deal done at the fingertips and a “Tilt” move executed from the front.

My favorite item in this book has the most awesome title ever; “Two-Card Fan Lift Switch, Reversal, Palm”. It’s exactly that: a two card, fan lift switch, a reversal and a palm. It sounds nuts, because it is nuts.

There is also a great amount of routines utilizing the sleights taught in the book. Amongst variations of classic plots, you will find several original to Mr. Krenzel. For example, one interesting routine in the book is a Collectors routine done backwards: three selections vanish from in between the aces, instead of the other way around!

In 2007, card flourishes were very cool and began trending. D&D is a flourish master and first introduced the card flourish. A card flourish is the art of manipulating the cards by shaping them into a beautiful movement.

The tutorial is divided into 2 variations: CUT and DISPLAY.

  • CUT is a piece of the deck that forms a beautiful motion element
  • DISPLAY is the completion of CUTTING to form a beautiful card arrangement in your hands.

The game is still a sibling of the magic arts because it uses a stack of cards.

Vinny Sagoo – The Experiment

Dr Rhine devised an experiment back in the early 1900’s to test for the existence of Extra Sensory Perception (ESP). He created five symbols, the Circle, Cross, Triangle, Square and Wavy Lines. You remove ten cards from a plastic wallet, five of which you pass to your spectator. Ask him to shuffle them face down as you do the same with your packet. You both exchange one card, which is then turned face up and inserted into the face down packet of cards. This is all done behind your back, so that no one knows what the exchanged cards are. You spread both the packets and the SAME symbol is the only card face up! You then state that you made a prediction beforehand, and when you turn the plastic wallet over, it’s also the SAME symbol! You state that this shows that you and the spectator have psychic abilities. The spectator a little sceptical, thinks that all of the cards are the same, but when they are turned over, they are actually all completely BLANK!

Word Up is a completely unique effect, whereby the spectator mentally selects a word from a word search that is printed on a plastic card. The word that they are merely thinking of then vanishes. And what’s more, it now appears on the back of the card! Your spectator will be literally blown away!
