Steven Youell, the fine cardician, has recently released his personal work on the pass, featuring his two passes, The Mongrel Pass and The Rotation Pass. These are on a self-produced DVD.
The DVD is home-made, but very high quality. It should be noted that it will only play on computers…it works fine on my Mac laptop, and on any fairly recent Windows computer.
Speaking as one who has studied the pass for over four decades, I consider this to be the best magic purchase I have made in years. The moves on both passes are brilliant and the results in Stevens hands are two truly invisible passes from virtually every angle.
The Mongrel Pass is a riffle pass with roots in the Robinson Riffle Pass tradition, but with a new “mechanism” for the packet exchange that is very different from Fred Robinson. Also, there are several new and important subtleties in the hand holds and positions which are vital to the cover and and the proper packet movements. This is not a pass for beginners, but, actually, it would likely be beneficial for beginners to start their journey with Steven’s work, since he has meticulously studied every aspect of the pass and has come up with solutions to many obstacles.
