Max Maven sits down in the library at the Magic Castle in Hollywood to share a straightforward and practical feat of telepathy. While the method is relatively simple, Max’s decades of experience yield beautiful insight into the performance of magic and mentalism, and he elucidates many details within the routine and shares a simple exercise which will inevitably make you a better performer.
The performer places a sealed envelope in full view, explaining that it contains a prediction of something that has not yet happened. Next, he spreads a deck of cards face up on the table and removes the joker. He gives the deck to a spectator who cuts it several times and then shuffles the deck. After cutting again if they wish, the spectator deals cards off of the top of the deck into a pile on the table. At any point that they wish, they stop dealing. The spectator removes two cards from either the top of the packet of cards on the table, or from the top of the deck remaining in their hand. They then choose just one of the cards. The performer reads their mind successfully and tells them which card they chose. But, that’s not all… the performer then opens the envelope and tips out one playing card. Nothing else remains in the envelope, and the card matches the card the spectator chose!
This incredibly strong effect defies explanation. A powerful combination of 6 different principals of magic and Mentalism is used. Each one is baffling in its own right, but together they create an unfathomable mystery.

It’s hard to describe the nature of the gimmick without exposure. But essentially Chatelain has incorporated an old gambling gimmick into a playing card.
Apart from the (well-made) gimmicked card, you also get a link to a relatively minimal 9 minutes of explanation via video. This has been filmed in a café – and whilst not ‘high production value’ is perfectly adequate for communicating what needs to be communicated

Sean Scott has been using this effect on the street to stop crowds in one of the most challenging environments anywhere. This effect was purposely created to intrigue and disarm audiences who have sometimes seen everything.
PERFORMANCE:
Spectators observe you plug your headphones into your phone. You let go of the phone leaving it suspended in the space in front of you, attached only to the cord. It is pulled through space as it rotates, dives, ascends and stops on a dime in almost any direction.
You then make the phone float through a hoop made from the headphone cord looking as if some new phenomenal technology is allowing the phone to defy gravity.
Next, you unplug the headphones from the phone. It then flies from the right to the left hand with no cords attached or visible means of support.

Imagine walking up to a group of people and showing four totally different photographs, each showing a different hand of playing cards. Each spectator looks at any one card in their photograph, and remembers it. The mentalist then shows a deck of cards and is able to tell each spectator the exact card they are thinking of. It’s direct, very easy to do and can be performed on one to four people.
You almost instantly know what card the spectator is thinking of, which can be used to perform other miracles rather than just revealing their card straight away.
